- When paired with CT, spinal metastases have no place to hide

CT scanning alone is a powerful modality for uncovering the osteoblastic and osteolytic spinal lesions that occur in approximately one-third of lung cancer patients. But adding metabolic information from PET scanning can really up the ante for the characterization of lesions that have not yet expressed morphologic changes.

The metabolic information is even more essential to make the difference between progression or osteoblastic response to treatment.

A study held at Baltimore compared FDG-PET and CT for bone metastasis diagnosis and found the combination of the two modalities to be stronger than either alone.
